[Per “Times” Special Wire.] Steamboat Accident. Wei-lixoton, April 24. The steamer Manawatn, which broke down on her trip from Wanganui, was towed into port this morning. The injury done is to the crown of the boiler, which has fallen in. It is stated that a strict inquiry will be held as to the circumstances connected with the damage. Crime in Wellington. The police arc investigating the circumstances connected with the lire at Dcrhanipoor. Longlmrst, sentenced last session to ten years and two whippings, received his lirst 2o lashes this morning. He bore it unflinchingly, hut suffered severely. The report of the medical examiners denies that the prisoner suffers from heart disease. Tramway Promoters in Difficulty. At 12.00 this morning the jury gave a verdict in the tramway case, which was substantially for the plaintiffs. Upon the verdict the Court will have to make an award. |
