In the official enquiry before the Wreck Commissioners into the loss of the missing ship Knowsloy Hall,, bound to New Zealand, the evidence showed that there was only a small quantity of dangerous cargo on board ; that the ship was stable and well found, and that the number of the crew was sufficient. The enquiry was adjourned sine die. April 8. The death is reported of Thcebaw, King of Burmah, whose attrocious npis= sacres and insolent attitude to British residents iu Mandalay resulted in the breaking off of diplomatic communications between India and Burmah. It is considered probable that Thcebaw will be succeeded by Nyoungyau, the Prince who for some time past has lived under British protection, in Calcutta. The Bight Hon. H. C. E. Childers, speaking at Hull, said that the Libci'als iu thcir'policy would maintain the unity of the Empire, as he considered tho connection between Great Britain and her colonics of vital importance. They also favored an equal system of local Government between the counties aqd the boroughs, They desired that full justice should be donc_ to Ireland, though not in the direction of Homo Buie, but that Ireland should enjoy the same Parliamentary and municipal suffrage as in England. Petitions arising out of the elections, arc likely to be presented against a number of successful candidates. April 10. Tho Porto is greatly alarmed at the result of tho general elections iu Groat Britain. April 12. Previous to their anticipated retirement from tho oliice, the Bcacousficld Government have elevated to tho Peerage several prominent members of the Conservative party. Included iu the number arc Sir Arthur Guinness ; Mr Bailie Cochrane, who has been for nearly JO years a member of the House of Commons ; Sir Lawrence Park, Bart; and Sir Ivor Bertie Guest, Bart.
