LEVELS ROAD BOARD
An ordinary meeting of the above was licit! to-day. Present—Messrs W. C. Beswick (Chairman), Macintosh, Mec, Shaw and W, Moody. CORUKsrOXDKXOK. From the Treasury, Wellington, intimating that £1057 15s -Id being subsidy for six months ending June 30 hist had been paid to the credit of the Board. From the same intimating that it was the intention of the Government to discontinue the payment of subsidies at the end of the present financial period. From the Geraldine County Council asking the Board to consent to the appointment of their Clerk as collector of dog-taxes within the Levels district; the matter was referred to the Clerk. From 1!. Orton complaining of the practice of contractors leaving heaps of shingle unprotected on the district roads, stating that the shaft of his buggy was broken on Tuesday last through an accident arising from this cause while driving along the Opihi road, and intimating that he should expect the Board or their contractor to make good the damage ; it was resolved to reply that the application could not be entertained.
From the Geraldine County Council applying for returns under section 32, Financial Arrangements Act. Clerk to furnish the information.
From same re stoppages of roads in tire Levels district. Also from the Board’s solicitors on the same subject. From David Anuaud, Church street, complaining of a serious nuisance, occasioned by a closet belonging to a boarding house, which he stated was in proximity to his water tank, and had not been cleaned for twelve months. The complaint was referred to the inspector with instructions that steps be taken to have the nuisance abated. From J. L. Wilson offering traction engine trucks at £SO each. Declined. HOAD WORKS. The following applications were read —From J. W. White and others for formation of Bcckingham road, &c. Resolved to comply with the request as soon as the roads are dedicated. From A. Aitken and others ro shingling approaches to Opihi school; W. J. Newton asked for repairs to road; J. Buckle re road at Arowhenua; J. Watkin’s, road at the Three Mile Bush to section 29,248 ; R. McLennan, Bush road from Campbell’s Farm to Paroora river; A. Clclland, Tcngawai Flat road. The applications were referred to the Engineer to be attended to. An application from J. South for metalling the Hills road to Tiko Flat, was referred to the Overseer to report upon. J. Hewitt, Christchurch, _ requested information rc road to sections 24,832 and 24,833. Resolved to refer the matter to the Mount Cook Road Board. OVHUSKKU’S RKI’ORT. The Overseer’s report having been considered it was decided to form a footpath in Elizabeth street, and to call for tcnders'for metalling Main South and Otipua roads. TKNDKRR. The tender of Tangncy and Moynahan was accepted for metalling Wai-iti road, for £494 2s 9Jd. Accounts wore passed for payment and the Board adjourned.
