SUNDAY LIQUOR TRADE.

[to the editor.] Sir, —Now that the harvest time is nearly over, and the hard-working men are daily arriving in town, I think_ it would be advisable that the authorities should sec that no inducements arc held out by the publicans to tempt these men to drink on the Sabbath Day, six days being quite sufficient for that purpose._ I would not mention the matter but for

the fact, only too well known, of one of our most respected publicans doing quite a roaring trade on the Sabbath, under the pretence of quenching the weary travellers throat. Anyone who sails in will be saluted by the man behind the bar with the old question : “ Traveller,” well knowing, in many instances, that the person before him was only the night previous rim out punctually, at 11, “ full-up.” Now, Mr Editor, is not this a farce ? I think it is time the authorities winked at it no longer, for they cannot surely be so verdant as not to know the fact. —Yours, &c. TEMPERANCE.
