The following items are selected from late cablegrams in the Australian papers received per Eotomahuna. The laws against Socialism in Germany have been extended for seven years. The Government of Greece has become unpopular and their budget has been rejected. llcligious dissension is creating alarm in Smyrna and a Turkish rising is apprehended.

The Czarewitch and Melikoff are cooperatingin putting down the Nihilist conspiracy in St. Petersburng. May prisoners are being released. The Nihilists disclaim any attempt on the life of General Melikoff, but are watching his actions. The Czar is yielding under the guise of firmness. Prince Orloff, The {Russian Ambassador at Paris, has been re-called in consequence of the French Government refusing, at the invitation of Russia, to extradite the self-confessed Nihilist Hartmann. General Skobeloff, the Russian com mander-in-Chiof of the expedition against the Tekke Turcomans will avoid Merv, as it is believed its occupation would provoke the British to advance on Herat. The health of the Czarina becomes daily more precarious, and by latest accounts doubts are entertained of her recovery. Mr Parnell has returned from his tomin America, and was accorded a most enthusiastic reception at Cork, where he landed. The people turned out in thousands to welcome him. The city was illuminated in the evening. Mr Parnell attended a banquet given in his honor, many prominent M.P.’s and leading- citizens being present. In response to the toast of his health, Mr Parnell detailed the result of his recent appeal to America in aid of the people of •‘Quid Erin-go-bragh.” Mr Biggar, M.P., said that if the course their party was pursuing in Parliament failed in its object Ireland might produce another Hartmann, and with bettor results. Great preparations arc being made in Ireland for the reception of their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Connaught, who arc about to visit that country. H.M.S. Raleigh, which is conveying relief for the Australian station, will search Amsterdam Island for any traces of survivors from the missiug ship Knowslcy Hall. It visits Australia, and it is likely one or perhaps both sons of the Prince of Wales will accompany it.
