Our own correspondent writes : One line of 4000 bushels of wheat, a good sample, has been placed at 4s, delivered in Christchurch. 4s Id has been offered for a superior sample. Several samples of rather inferior barley have been offered, for which 4s was asked by the sellers. Buyers, only give up to 13s lOd. Oats range from Is -Id to Is 6d for superior samples, llye grass, outside sales best samples, 2s (5d per bushel; Cocksfoot, 2d to 2fd per lb. There is hardly anything doing in grass seed. MELBOURNE GRAIN MARKET. Under date Melbourne, March 10, J. H. Clough and Co., report as follows : Wheat. —The market has weakened to the extent of about lid per bushel, and 4s 74d is a full figure to-day. We sole! 1,103 bags at from 3s lOd to 4s lid for smutty and inferior, and 4s 2d to 4s Old for average to medium, nothing prime being submitted. Barley.—No improvement can be noted in this market. For prime malting os to os 2d has been obtained, and feed may be quoted at from 2s 2d to 2s Bd, according to quality. We sold to-day 183 bags malting at os 2d. Oats show no change in value since last week and may be quoted at from 2s to 2s 3d, for medium to good feed and up to 2s 6d for prime samples. We have sold 516 bags at 2s lid and 2s 2d, the lots offered being only fair to medium qualities.
