[Pee “Times” Special Wire.] Young Scott again. Wellington, March 15. Toung Scott continued steady on his 113 miles in 34 hours walking match, aud, on Saturday, at 8 p.ra., had finished 100 miles. He then freshened up, but was unable to complete the distance, doing 109 miles four minutes within the appointed hour. A largo crowd attended, aud Scotc was loudly cheered at the conclusion. An Explanation. A letter from the Commissioner of llio Government Insurance Department states that the delay in the payment of the amount of policy of insurance in the case of James Boyle, killed at Auckland, was owing to the necessary documents for .settlement not being received. The original probate was only received on March 8, and on the 10th a cheque was forwarded to the widow. Death of Major Stack. Nelson, March 15. — Major (Stack, well known throughout the Colony as Commanding Officer of olnntcers died here on Saturday evening. Me will be buried this afternoon with military honors. Maintenance. CjuirsTCiiuiiCH, March 15. —William and Alfred Hall were charged, on remand, with failing to support their mother. Sub-Inspector O’Donnell said lie had made enquiries in Timaru, and it was said the average earnings of the accused amounted to £3 a week each. One had a horse and dray, and neither were needy men. As the ease had been partly heard by the P. M., both men were remanded till to-morrow. Publicans v. Muffs. The return cricket match, Mull’s v. Publicans, is being played to-day. The latter in their first innings scored 103. A Big Brick-kiln. Austin, Kirk & Go. (Limited) have just completed at their works, _St. Martin’s, the largest brick-kiln, it is believed, in the southern hemisphere. It is circular, with fourteen chambers, and holds 25,000 bricks. Each shaft is 130 feet high. The Dunedin Tragedy. Dunedin, March 15. —All the papers urge the Government to offer a large reward for the apprehension of the supposed murderers. A Rich Claim. The Undaunted Company at Tinker’s Gully washed up 13000z5., the result of eight months’ work for eight men. They expect to get 500ozs. more. The ground is very rich, giving a dwt. co the shovelful.
