TEMUKA VOLUNTEERS.

DISTRICT PRIZE PIKING. The No. 1 Company, Temuka Volunteers, competed for the above firing at Winchester, on Friday, March 12, undei’ the command of Captain Young. Stall;-Sergeant-Major Morgan superintended the firing. The ranges were 400, 500, and 600 yards; 7 shots at each range. The following ai’c the six highest scorers :

After the above firing, a private mat cli was fired oft’ at the 300 and 400 yards’ range, seven shots at each range, with the following result: —Private E. Smith, 48 ; Corporal Levens, 44; Private H. Smith, 44; Sergeant Smith, 43; Lieut. Findlay, 40; Corporal Uprichard, 36; Private Binley, 32; Pi’ivate Andrews, 18 ; Color-Sergeant Coira, 16. The above firing is not so good as on former occasions, owing to the members of the Company having had no practice, and also of their being deprived of the use of their butts at Temulca, until one is erected. The weather was bright;, and there was a slight wind from the north-east, which slightly interfered with the scores.

After firing the company were put through battalion drill by Staff-Ser-geant-Major Morgan, assisted by Captain Young and Lieut. Findlay. The company was then dismissed.
