Clarence made the running but fell at the last hurdle. Grey Mourns looked formidable but his rider fell off half a mile from home. When Clarence fell, Tc Whetu had no difficulty in stalling off and rushed past Matu. Time —-Enins. 4-l.jj- secs. The betting was in favor of Momus and Clarence. Wanganui Derby of 100 sovs. ; added to a sweepstakes of 10 sovs. each, half forfeit; distance, LI miles; colts, Bst lOIhs; fillies and geldings, Sst 51hs ; closed with 3!) subs. Rocket .. .. .. .. .. 1 Sauntcrer .. ~ .. .. .. 2 My Dream .. .. .. .. .. 3 Ringleader, Astronomer, Leila, Counts, Pctruchio, Hockfall, and Shane O'Neill also ran. Betting—l to 1 Sannterer and Astronomer, 20 to 1 Rocket. Sauntcrer made the running, with My Dream and Rocket close up, On entering the straight Rocket closed on Sannterer, and they ran a desperate race up the straight, Rocket winning by a short head. My Dream was a good third. Time —2min. 3] secs. Sapling Starks of GO sovs, three-quarters of a mile. Sincerity .. .. .. .. .. 1 Lotliair .. .. .. .. .. 2 Falcon .. .. .. .. .. 3 Three others started. Retting 3tol on Sincerity. This was a very pretty race. Cigarette jumped away with the lead and led for half a mile. Sincerity then came through, and won easily by a length. Time—lmin. j^scc -
