SOUTH CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB.

A meeting of the Committee of the S.C.J.C. was held last evening at the Grosvenor Hotel. Present —Mr E. Gt. Kerr (in the chair), and Messrs Meikle, Jonas, 11. Stansell, T. Hall, J. It. Stanscll (Hon. Secretary), and A. St. G. Hamcrslcy (Hon. Treasurer). It was resolved to make enquiries respecting a claim for £3 3s lOd under the Land Tax Act, the Committee being under the impression that recreation reserves arc exempted from taxation. A number of applications for the right to use totalisator machines at the forthcoming races were received and read.

It was moved by Mr Jonas, seconded by Mr Hall, and carried —“That the right of running the totalisator at the forthcoming races be solely by public auction; also, that the right of all the other privileges, excepting the Stand, be sold by auction on March 20.” The offer of Messrs Jonas, Hart, and Wildic to sell the racing privileges was accepted with thanks, and Messrs Jonas, Hall, and It. Stansell were appointed a sub-committee to arrange for the sale. A letter was read from Mr H. P. Lance, expressing his willingness to act as handicapper as formerly. Accounts amounting to £lB 16s Id were passed for payment. A general meeting was then held, at which the New rules were submitted and adopted, and a hundred copies ordered to be printed. It was resolved that officers already appointed remain in office until the next annual meeting in August next. The Committee meeting was then resumed, and as the new rules require the Committee to consist of nine members, the old ones requiring only four, Messrs Hamersley, J. It. Stanscll, lt.ll. Taylor, and H. Gardener, were elected under rule 15, to fill the vacancies until next annual meeting in August. This concluded the business, and the meeting adjourned.
