MECHANICS’ INSTITUTE.
TOWN EDITION.
The ordinary Library Committee meeting of the Timaru Mechanics’ Institute took place last night. Present Messrs Jas. Scott (President) J. Harney, 11. H. Taylor, A. Hart, and Geo. Gordon. The ordinary inward correspondence having been read, it was decided for the future that the Committee meetings be held on the second Friday in every month. The sub-Gommittec appointed to ascertain the advisability or otherwise of holding a bazaar during the present year, with the object of raising funds to pay off an existing debt, reported that as there were two bazaars likely to be held shortly it would be advisable to postpone the scheme for the present. The selecting committee then reported that they had made some progress with the order for new books to be procured from Home. It was resolved—That Mr J. P. Jones be informed that he must not again allow the hall to to be used for the purpose of skating during the hours of 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The secretary handed in his resignation, It was resolved —That Mr Head’s resignation bo accepted with regret, and that the president write to Mr Head communicating this resolution, and expressing the satisfaction that the committee have experienced with the ellicient manner in whicli Mr Head has discharged his duties while acting as librarian. The secretary was then instructed to draw up a list of members’ in arrear with their subscriptions, and present the same at the next meeting of the committee. The usual accounts were passed for payment, and the meeting adjourned.
