["Per “Times” Special Wire.] Turbulent Maoris. Napier, Feb. 23. —Mills arrived in town on Saturday and reported to the police that the Wanganui natives had shot a number of sheep at Murimitu belonging to Moorhouse.. and had threatened to burn down the homestead. He stated that the whole of the hands had left the station owing to threats made by the natives and that he was the last to leave. Murimitu is in the Wanganui police district and no action can therefore be taken by in. spector Scully in the matter. The head chief of the Taupo lives at present in Napier. Notwithstanding the threatening attitude of the natives, Reville Walker is about to drive four thousand sheep on to land immediately adjoining that of Mr Moorhouse. The Taharati Natives have given Macmastcr notice to leave his run which he leases from them, within a week, under threats of violence if he refuses to comply with their demands. Macrnaster is now in town and has reported the matter to the proper authorities. Even the rillc butts seem to be an offence in the eyes of the Maoris. They have removed some of the sand-bags and other accessories, and doubtless they will next carry off tlie targets for private rifle practice by themselves. Major Ihmtlcdge has reported the matter to the (government and awaits instructions before taking any action in the matter. Dunedin Items. Dunedin, Feb. 23.
