Christchurch, Jan. 19. Wheat for early shipment and delivery is now coming forward, and with a view of taking;advantage of railway carriage when trucks are easy to get and the chance of detention is least, threshing is being pushed forward vigorously in nearly every district. Many of the samples shown are really fine,.and the bulk of the yield, it is thought, will fully sustain, the excellent reputation our wheat won for itself in the London market last year. Considerable business has been transacted at rates equal to last week’s quotations at 3s lOd to 3s for parcels for early delivery. Oats. —The condition of the market is without change, and buyers are only disposed to take up large parcels on their own terms. "Quotations are Is 4d to Is 5d for feed; Is 6d for milling. Barley.—Prices remain about the same, 3s 3d to 3s 6d, while grain of undeniable quality commands 3s 6d to 3s Bd. Grass seed. —No change to note, either in rye-grass or cocksfoot. Both seeds are extremely hard to sell, and values are nominally 2s to 2s 6d for the former, and 2s 2d to 2s 8d for the latter. Dairy Produce —Butter and cheese are without alteration; hams and bacon are not readily obtainable at late rates. There is great apathy in the meat market; mutton, IJd to 2|dper lb. ; lambs, few sold, 5s to 8s 6d each ; beef, best, 17s 6d ; inferior, 15s 6d per lOOlbs. Melbourne, Feb. 19. Five thousand bushels of New Zealand oats have been sold by auction, milling at 2s 9d, feeding, at 2s to 3s. Calcutta telegrams advise that woolpacks are stiffening, and that jute is advancing rapidly.
