THE EDISON LAMP.
'A telegram , from London, dated Dec 30, says :—“ln consequence of a cable despatch received by the London “Times” from its American correspondent, who visited’ Mr Edison at Menlo Park, and in consequence of an editorial published in the same paper to-day and based on their interview, gas stocks have fallen £5 to-day, following a drop of £ls from their price this day week. The San Francisco “Post” of Jan 15, says “ French Scientists arc incredulous regarding Edison’s experiment. Count du Moncel, a great electrician, writes to say that the Edison Lamp is not new. But whether new or old if it does the work claimed for it, that is all that can be desired. It is old inasmuch as it was tried b} r European electricians, who- failed to procure a sustained light by it, but it is new in the sense that it renders this seiwice to Edison. There can be little doubt of the complete success of the Edison lamp.
