(By Tklkgk-U’H.) AUCKLAND, Vm 14. The schooner Energy brings Levuka papers to Feb 4. A gentleman resident on the Boa coast says he personally knows of no less than forty-three deaths of natives having occurred in his district, which were attributed to the effects of the late cyclone at Ban. The people are cither drowned or died from exposure to the inclement weather. Diphtheria has broken out amongst the native population at Van, and four serious eases are reported. DrFarquhar has left Lomalousa to render professional assistance. It is hoped the disease will be quickly stamped out. Mr Robert Evans, of the schooner Ariel which was chartered to proceed to Nadi, in search of the ill-fated cutter Byron, which was lost at the time that her owner (the late Air Fergus McPherson) met his death, has returned to Levuka, and reports thathehas succeeded in finding the object of bis search, which is sunk in about six fathoms, but will be easilv lifted and recovered.
The brig violet having been found to he leaky was hauled up on the beach, sold at auction for !>OO dollars, and broken up.
