AUCKLAND 11EGATTA. Tliis regatta came oft' under favorable auspices yesterday. The weather was hue, there was a splendid sailing breeze and thousands enjoyed the marine display. Chajipiox 11 ace —Brigantines, schooners and ketches, 25 tons and upwards. First prize, £IOO ; second, cup, valued at £B, and £2 added ; third, £lO ; special prize, a sextant, to the master of the first vessel of 50 tons or over ; course round Tiri Tiri and back, about <LO miles.
The ileward, Byno, Ada, and Fleetwing were well in the rear. The Transit had a time allowance of llmin. 40secs. and she therefore takes first prize ; Sybil, 2 ; Annie Wilson, S. The Borealis saves her stakes. Mazeppa did not go round the course,
Txuding Colliers —Gf 25 tons and upwards. First prize, cup, valued at £35, and £ls added ; second, £2O ; third, £5 ; course round Tiri Tiri, Fanny 1 Rangitiri ... 2 Sovereign o£ the Seas 3 The two first got a lead in the Channel and kept it throughout, the Sovereign of the Seas being third. Sailing Boats under 6Jtons —First prize, Cup 'valued £lO 10s given by the Mayor, with £5 added ; second, £5 third, £5. Jessie Logan ... ... ... 1 Lalla 2 Glance ... ... 3
There were twelve competitors, and a splendid struggle ensued between the Jessie Logan and Lalla, the former carrying away her topmast. She reached the flagship fourth. Trading Vessels, under 25 tons —First prize, £25; second, £lO ; third, £5. Henry first, maintaining her lead throughout. Open Sailing Boats Race —First prize, “New Zealand Herald’s” Cup, £lO given by Messrs Wilson and Horton, £5 added ; second, £5. Toy (Bailey) 1 Alert (Jones) ... 2 Sailing Boats or Yachts, 5 to 6 tons — First prize, N.Z. Shipping Company’s cup, value £25 ; second, £lO. Thetis 1 Sabrina 2 Thetis maintained her lead through out. Sailing Boats —First Class : First prize, value £l7, with £5 added ; second, £5 ; third* £2. Mabel ... 1 Margaret 2 This was well contested. Sailing Boats —Second Class ; First prize, cup value £5, with £5 added ; second, £4 ; third, £2. Pastime ... 1 Rip 2 The latter carried away part of her gear. Sailing Boats —First prize, £lO. Alert ... ... ... ... 1 Foreign Going Vessels —First prize, £lo._ The brigantines Ryno and Raratonga, and barques Ben Nevis and Inglewood, competed. The Raratonga won easily. Coasting Vessels’ Gigs —Prize, £lO. Rotomahana gut the lead, and kept it. Not a single accident occurred.
