.Times Office, Friday evening. Messrs Jonas, Hart and' Wildie report holding their woolsale at their yards this afternoon. The attendance was large and the bidding spirited. Subjoined are some of the prices realised: —Merino wool, 7d to 7£d per lb ; half-bred and cross-bred wool, 7d to 74 ; cross-bred skins, 3s 2d, 3s sd, 3s 9d to 4s"lld; merino skins, 2s. 9d, 3s 3d, 3s 9d to 4s 10. These prices maybe considered very satisfactory and may be taken as evidence of a welcome revival in business circles, • TELEGEAPHIC. Christchurch, Jan. 22. ; , Nothing of importance has transpired in the grain market. This week the chief interest is centered in the;opening rates • for, the new wheat crop,, and the matter, was very much discussed by growers and buyers. •Scarcity of tonnage for shipment will, no doubt, have ah appreciable weight in determing the prices, and until that matter is: fixed and harvesting further, advanced, approximate values can only be given. 4s to 4s 3d, however, is generally accepted as the probable figure. Victoria. Messrs J. H. Clough and Co., Of Melbourne, report under date Jan. 7, as follows: — Grain—A rather better feeling is noticeable to--day, and the market is firmer at . a slight advance on recent'rates. . Flonr.—Thc enquiry in this article is slightly'better, and sales have been made at from £lO 10s to £ll ss, according to quality and terms. Wheat —Only limited offerings are brought forward for public competition though considerable quantities have changed hands privately. Medium is worth 4s 5d to 4s 7d, good 4s 7d to 4s Bd, and up to 4s Old for prime. We sold all we offered to-day at from 4s 7Jd to 4s 9d. Oats. —The inquiry is limited to trade requirements, buyers being unable to meet sellers in their' ideas of value, as the latter expect better prices to rule. A bright clean sample of New Victorian sold to-day at 2s lOd; 2s 6d to 2s 8d being about the value of average samples. Barley.—This grain, when in prime lots, shows an improvement, and may be quoted at from 4s 5d to 4s BJd for inferior, 4s 9d to 4s lOd for good, and up to 5s 7d for prime malting. In Cape there is no change to note. London, Jan. 21. Five per cent New Zealand 10-40 loan, 102 J ; new loan, 103 g. The next series of wool sales is fixed for Feb. 17. The arrivals to date amount to 50,000 bales ; the total probable , quantity to be offered, including that left over from last auctions, is 250,000 bales. The quantity of new arrivals to be included in the sales has been restricted by the Importers Committee to 250,000 bales. The metal market is steady. Three per cent Consols 97-|. Adelaide wheat, 58s fid ; Adelaide flour unchanged ; Australian tallow further declined, best beef, 35s fid ; best mutton, 395.
