[Per “Times” Special Wire.] Stud Cattle. Auckland, Jan. 22.—Mr Winthorp has imported from Sydney four head of cattle of the Alderney breed, which took first prizes at the Exhibition. A Clean Bill. Captain Mackie, of the Ben Nevis, lias been exonerated from certain charges brought by two passengers. An Obliging Government. Samples from the supposed new copper lode at Coromandel have been sent to the Government for analysis. Sailed—Arawata for the South. Subdued, not Conquered. Wellington, Jan. 23, Young Fraser started again at f o’clock last night. At 8 o’clock, when his 24 hours were up, he had completed 72 miles. Wellington Regatta. A strong N.W. gale is blowing. All rowing has been postponed, however, the sailing race will take place. Watlve Band Claims. The Stella,is going to Opunake to-day with 80 Armed Constabulary. The “ New Zealander ” this morning states that decisive measures relative to the West Coast confiscated land business now for some time pending are about to be taken. It lias been resolved to give full effect to the terms of proclamation, by summoning - all Natives who have claims, to tender them in due form, and thus it is expected that a virtual separation will be effected between Taranaki Natives and those of Ngatimuri to the weakening of Te Widths power. Boad-muking is to be vigorous]} - prosecuted by the Constabulary, commencing at Opunake and Tabi,
and working towards each other. After the section of road between Waihi and Opunake is completed the construction of another section from Opunake North to Sidney River will be undertaken.
