STICKING UP AT WASHDYKE.
Last evening a genuine case of sticking up occured very near Timaru. A young man named Conolly was proceeding homewards along the Washdyke road, when he was suddenly set upon by two men who after handling him somewhat roughly, secured his silver watch and made off across the fields. . The owner of the watch immediately retraced his steps and reported his loss at the Police Depot. This morning Sergeant Haldane succeeded in arresting two men close to the Washdyke and not far from the scene of the robbery. These men were this afternoon placed among a crowd of others in order that the prosecutor might identify his assailant. He picked one man out without any difficulty hut failed to recognise the other. It was at first suspected by the police that the watch had been pawned at Mr Fruhauf’s shop, but on enquiry being made it was ascertained that this had not been done. The man identified by the prosecutor will be brought up before the Kcsidcnt Magistrate to-morrow morning.
