For Northern ports of New Zealand, per Penguin, at 6 a.m. For the United Kingdom, America, China, West Indies, and Continent of Europe via San Francisco, at 1.30 p.m. For money orders and registered letters at 12.30 p.m. ; Late fee letters bearing one additional rate per letter will be received at the Chief Post office till 1.40, and at the Railway Travelling Post Office Mail Yan (northern express train) till 2.20 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16. For Chatham Islands per Omaha, at 3.45 p.m. Dec 30—Seagull, 122 tons, Brown, from Dunedin. Dec 31—Ladybird, s.s., 286 tons, McGee, from Dunedin.
Thmsday, Jan 1 (New Year’s Day) being a postal holiday, all mails usually closed on Thursdays, will close on Wednesday, Dec 31, at 8 p.m. The office will be open from 8 to 9 p.m. on Wcdnsday, Dec 31, when letters may be obtained from the delivering department, also those usually delivered by letter-carriers. The next mail for the United Kingdom via San Francisco, will close at Timaru on Saturday Jan. 3,1880, and will be due in London on Feb 17, 1880. W. W. Beswick, Acting Chief Postmaster.
