LEVELS ROAD BOARD.

At a meeting of the Levels Boad Board yesterday it was resolved that the Levels Boad Board desires to record its regret that a requisition signed by 750 ratepayers, holding property to the annual value of ,670,000, and resulting in the proclamation of the county of Timaru in the “ Gazette ” of 2nd October, 1879, has been negatived by a vote of the House of Bcpresentativcs. It was further agreed that the Board should resolve itself into a committee for the purpose of considering the necessary steps to be taken to carry out the wishes of the ratepayers in having the proposed county of Tirnaru proclaimed as provided for by the Counties Act of 1870. A letter was read fi’om the Geraldine Boad Board, requesting the Levels Boad Board to co-operate in urging the Government to repair the Bangitata bridge. It was resolved — “ That the letter be acknowledged and the Board informed that the Levels Boad Board must decline to have anything to do with the matter as it is not in the district.”

Several applications for road works were referred to the overseer. Protective works at Spillane’s, on the Arowhenua River, were ordered to be taken in hand at once. The Chairman was instructed to sec Mr Frew with reference to his allowing a road through his paddock in case of another flood. Mr Buckle interviewed the Board with reference to the formation of a road on the Scadown estate. Resolved—“ That permission bo obtained from the Commissioner to form the road, and that the Overseer have same done.” The following tenders were accepted ; Guy’s Pass road —J. Thompson, £147 10s Bd. Balfour’s to McGregor’s—J. Thompson, £53 10s. Footpath to Totara Valley School — J. Cartwright, £2O. It was resolved —“ That the clerk advertise the election of two members to serve on the Levels Road Board for the Otipua Ward.”
