FEARFUL SUFFERINGS AT NEW CALEDONIA.
[Pick “TniEs” Special Wire.] Deplorable news comes from New Caledonia. At Dcroa Guano Islands, ■where 6G men are employed, the workmen were left without provisions, except birds’ eggs and turtles. The manager made a journey of 110 miles in a small boat and got a temporary supply. He came to New Caledonia for relief when he found the Company’s credit stopped and the Government of New Caledonia prohibited the removal of anything from the island owing to arrears of rent. The Company subsequently dispatched a vessel from Sydney with provisions. Two of the transport service who had been embezling Government funds to the quantity of £BOO went a few miles from Noumea and enjoyed themselves thoroughly after which they both blew their brains out.
A latter from Samoa says the war was caused by Europeans scheming for land. A garrison of German soldiers is expected to bo placed on the island to protect German interests.
