LOWEE HOUSE. FEMALE FRANCHISE. NATIVE AFFAIRS DEBATE. —CANTERBURY SHOW BILL PASSED. Yesterday in the House of Eepresentatives, Mr Turnbull gave notice of a motion affecting womanhood suffrage an din favor of the same. In reply to questions, it was stated:—That the Government would inquire into the ex. pediency of appointing a sitting of the District Court at Eiverton ; that a portion of the first instalment of laud tax only had been collected, and as the time had expired, fresh legislation would he necessary for enabling the remainder to be collected ; that five hundred acres of reserve had been gazaeted as an endowment of the Borough of Kuraara, and no further reservation could be made under the Act, that the Government would consider means for providing townships with less house-holders than required by the Municipal Act with governing bodies; that the Government did not intend to give effect to the recommendation made by the Agent-General for altering his designation to that of Eesident Minister; that Government had under consideration a proposal to place a sum on the Estimates for a Police Station and Eesident Magistrate’s Court at Lyttelton; That Government did not propose to appoint a Minister of Mines with an independent portfolio. The debate on the motion by Mr Hamilton relative to the issuing of a warrant by the Speaker for the production of "VYorgan was resumed, Messrs Hamlin, Moorhouse, Ormond, De Lautour, Adams, Hall, Turnbull, McLean, Macandrew, Dick and Sutton participating in the same. A division on the amendment was lost, the following being the list:—Ayes—2l. Atkinson, Bain, Beetham, Driver, Gibbs, Hall, Hursthouse, Mason, McLean (teller), Oliver, Ormond (teller) Eolleston, Eussell, Seymour, Stevens, Studholme, Trimble, Whitaker, Willis, Whyte. Noes—44. Adams, Allwright, Andrews, Ballance, Barron, Bryce, De Lautour (teller) Dick, Finn, Fulton, George, Gisborne, Hamlin (teller). Harris, Hislop, Hurst, Hutchison, Kelly Lundon, Macandrew, McDonald, Montgomery, Ireland, Moorhouse, Moss, Murray, Pyke, Eeeves. Eeid, Seddon, Shanks, Sheehan, Shephard, Speight, Swanson, Taiuui, Tawhai, Te Wheoro, Thompson, Tole, Tamoana, Turnbull, Wallis. The Premier announced that the Hiuemoa would leave Wellington this evening at the conclusion of the business to permit members desirous of attending the Christchurch show so doing. No adjournment of the House would, however, take place. The Christchurch Drill Shed Bill was passed after ft third reading.
