In order to get at a tradesman who successfully contested his right to expose articles for sale oq the footpath, on the ground that his house stood back some feet from the street boundary, tlic corporation has determined to call upon him to fence that spare ground according to the regulations. It is understood that Mr Joseph Saunders, of Wellington, is the successful tenderer for Horndon reclamation and the first section of the West Coast railway, the amount being £75,000. A tender from another part of the Colony was very close to that amount. The Government has made a condition that the contractor should find work for the unemployed. This Mr Saunders undertakes to do in a fortnight.
