DISTRICT OF MESSRS. MACDONALD AND DRUMMOND, ON SAVAII.

This district comprises two of the native divisions of this large island, viz, Faasaleleaga and Falelua; is about 26 miles long, and has eighteen congregations. The Faasaleleaga district was under the charge of brother Hardie until April 1844. Former reports of this district were full of interesting facts, and were such as to inspire hope; but none of us expect the sun always to shine out: both entire missions and individual districts are sometimes under circumstances which give occasion for aching hearts and prostration of spirit on the part of the anxious and watchful Pastor. The district in cpiestion has for some time been under a cloud. Some sad instances of defection had previously occurred, but the great instrument which has brought so prominently forward, on the part of many, “ the old man which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts,” is the War, of which some account is given in another article. It is gratifying, however, to see that a considerable majority has acted both consistently, and boldly, in this unhappy affair. In the mean time all the congregations are well attended, as are also most of the schools, one of which is attached to each congregation. Feb. 1845. A. MACDONALD.
