Spiral Hill work over 2 years
The $1.3 million project to realign a section of Spiral Hill immediately north of Raurimu will start with $300,000 spent in the 1997-98 year, with the - rest being spent the following year. The project will improve the 65km/h area where there has been a "considerable number of crashes due to drivers losing control" according to Transit New Zealand (TNZ). Carried over from the 1996/97 budget is $483,000 for improvements to the railway crossing south of Waiouru on State Highway One. TNZ has also announced that Rotoaira Road from Rangipo on SH1 to the intersection with SH47 becomes a state highway, SH46.
