First aid courses now popular

First aid teacher Jenny Leipst helps Bonnie Sue practise resuscitatmg a baby using a doll at a comprehensive first aid course at the Maungarongo Marae last week. The course, arranged by Te Kura Kaupapa O Maori O Ngati Hangi, included staff, heipers, parents and caregivers from the school, the kohanga reo and the marae's health centre. It was run by New Zeaiand Red Cross staff from the east-west region. Over 60 people have taken part in courses in the Waimarino over the past three weeks, said Mrs Leipst — a very pleasing result for them, knowing that more and more people are eager to learn first aid. She said an 8-hour practical course will be held on 19 and 20 August, and asks that people interested phone her, 06-358-9152, to register.
