Taking on early childhood work
Margaret Kilmartin has been appointed as the relieving early childhood community worker in the Waimarino, by the Ruapehu Rural Education Activities Programme (REAP). Margaret, her husband Ken and their four daughters have lived in the Waimarino area for 10 years and Margaret believes that after living in a rural community most of her
married life, she knows the loneliness and isolation involved in raising a young family. Margaret sees her role as a support for the whole family by providing them with information so that they can make informed choices about early childhood education that best suits their family needs. This includes the preschool facilities that are
available locally. Homebased services like playgroups are also an option and Margaret is available to help set up and provide educational toy kits for small groups. Margaret is very enthusiastic and says she is enjoying the challenge and is finding the position fulfilling. Contact Margaret on 06-385-8663.
