Waimarino tops rates arrears
Rates arrears totalled $28 1 ,97 1 for the Waimarino Ward of the Ruapehu District as at 31 May 1997, the highest of any wards. Taumarunui's arrears were next highest at $184,991; then Ohura at $134,765; then National Park at $16,224; the Waiouru at $5740. The total outstanding for the district at 31 May was $623,693. The council has written off rates totalling $50,695 on a number of pieces of abandoned land where rates owing amounted to as much as $16,000 more than the sale price.
