Schoolboy rugby report

By

Teki

Ohakune went away with a win from the annual senior schoolboy rugby challenge against Raetihi last week. The 27-7 score showed that the efforts Ohakune has been making in the past few weeks had paid off. The boys played with more team commitment, backing each other up well. Raetihi played well too but failed a little at times to finish off some good moves. They defended well in the first 10-15 minutesof the second half but Ohakune's attacking drive and running skills were too good on the day for Raetihi. The final score was 27-7 to Ohakune.

Both Raetihi and Ohakune coaches, Jarnes Renata and Brian Wilson, praised the teams for good play, team effort and good ball handling skills. In the intermediate grade the tables were turned in favour of Raetihi who beat Ohakune 72-0. Tries went to Scott Irwin (2), Hoani Brown (2), Hayden Brown (2), Anthony Te Huia (3), Roman TeTahua (1), Nick Kavanagh (2), Kamrin Ellers (1), Ricki Horne (1)1 Anthony Te Huia converted one try. The juniors and midgets also played good games.
