Getting the most from truck tyres

Tyres and how to get the most out of them was the subject of a seminar put on by Goodyear at the Ohakune Hotel on Saturday 21 June, in conjunction with Ruapehu Tyre Centre, Ohakune. Pictured is group area manager Brian Cole, at left, discussing a ' big , black round thing' with Brian Sefton, Dave Griffin, Colin Fredricksen, Shane Eades and Tony Tuhoro (Ruapehu Tyre Centre, Ohakune). The seminar, entitled "Mad Max" was about maximising trucking profits by maximising tyre wear. Tony said Goodyear's philosophy was to look after a client's tyres through the life of the tyre, not just when they are fitted. Part of that care is informing users on how to calculate the optimum tyre pressure for various surface conditions, load weights and travelling speeds. Other benefits from this approach included better handling and safety. At the end of the seminar a draw was carried out, with Dave Griffin winning $1500 worth of truck tyres.
