Tidy cable job impresses the locals
A cable-laying crew are working in various parts of Raetihi laying new underground lines and ducts, in many cases replacing overhead wires. Crew foreperson Sue Hurley said the work follows a number of problems with water infiltrating the cables. They are into their fourth week of work and have a couple of months to go. Two things about the crew have made some in the town take notice. One is that the boss is a woman, and the other is that they are generally making a very tidy job of it. Some locals have commented that the two factors are linked. "I'd hate to answer that one because I would be biased," said Sue. She said it was more to do with their company's policy. "And we've got really good guys on the team." She said they would like to thank the locals for their kindness, especially the scone-makers!
