Schoolboy rugby

There were some wins and some losses for Raetihi .Schoolboy Rugby when they took on Taihape at Taihape on Saturday 14 June, in ideal weather

conditions. The seniors lost to Taihape, 24-0. The score didn't reflect the good defensive play by Raetihi who showed some good rugby, but were unable to capitalise more. Player of the day: Frazer Hammond, Kirsten Kilmartin and Thomas Kavanagh. The intermediates played an awesome game, according to their coach Goonks Te Huia. Their defence against counter attack and counter attack by a strong Taihape side saw Raetihi hold them off from scoring several times in first half of the game and for most of the second half. Taihape managed to penetrate Raetihi 's back line and they did score a try eventually, however they were unable to convert. Raetihi's Hoani Brown put points on the board first and in total score three tries with Scott Irwin scoring one and Anthony Te Huia converting three. The final score was 5-26 to Raetihi. The juniors and midgets also had good games. Mike Gordon and Kevin Dobbs put a lot of time and energy into coaching the children and said they appreciate the help from parents.
