Winter basketball for College fund raising
A winter basketball league starts at Ruapehu College Community Gymnasium on Tuesday, 1 July. The Ruapehu College Form 4 boys and girls basketball teams are using the basketball league as a fund-raising venture, in order to attend a junior tournament in Porirua, in the last week of August. The basketball league is for "mixed teams", where each team must have at least three females on the court at all times. This format was very successful last year so teams have been asking for it to be repeated. Entry forms can be collected from Maxine Ormond at Broadbent's Bookshop, Ruapehu College office or Route 66 Diner (Waiouru). Inquiries can be made to Jefferine
O'Sullivan (ph 385-8258). Entries close on Friday, 27 June. The first three week's gym hire is sponsored by The Video Shop. Any other businesses that are willing to help the junior basketball players get to Porirua, are asked to contact Jefferine O'Sullivan. Ruapehu College has four basketball teams playing each Friday in the Wanganui Secondary Schools competition. On Friday, 27 June, the locals will host Taihape, Kokohuia and Wanganui High at Ruapehu College Gymnasium at the following times: 5.30pm, Form 4 Boys v Taihape College; 6.15pm Form 3 Girls v Wanganui High School; 7.00pm Form 4 Girls v Kokohuia; 7.45pm Under 16 Boys v Taihape.
