Kindergarten funds from fun fashion night out
Ohakune Kindergarten raised more than $1500 from last Wednesday night's annual fashion show, which was a pleasing effort, said teacher Lynn Pope. She said she was impressed with the way the fund-rais-ing event is shared around the community, with a different community organisation benefiting each year. There was lots of input from lots of people in the local community and businesses. Organiser Linda Netton, from Junction Ski Shop, said numbers attending were about average although not as high as at one held in 1995 when many ski field workers were already in town. The Ohakune Kindergarten committee worked in the background, providing supper, door people, running raffles, decorating the Hot Lava Niteclub and cleaning up .
All the models for the five shops give their time voluntarily for the show. "It's a problem that early childhood education suffers, but time and time again we have to ask the community for money," said Mrs Pope. "So we thank the people for coming to the fashion show." She pointed out that the college pupils and teachers had to change their whole presentation for their Stage Challenge performance to suit the smaller stage, which would have entailed a lot of work. She a-lso made mention of Cath Craig who was master of ceremonies for the night. . FOOTNOTE: Raylene Deadman is the past chairpersori of the Kindergarten committee, and the current chairperson is Fran Frew. The article in last week's Bulletin incorrectly stated that Raylene was chairperson.
