By

The proud bearing of the Corps of Officer Cadets was apparent despite persistent rain during the graduation ceremony for the senior class of Officer Cadets. "Everyone who watched you parade in the rain this afternoon must have been deeply impressed," said Minister of Defence Paul East. Among the Corps were the 24 cadets who were to receive their certificates and prizes and take their place as officers in the New Zealand Army. After leading the parade as company sergeant major, Second Lieutenant Patrick Edmonds was presented with the Sword of Honour for best all-round army officer cadet. He also received the Chief of General Staff's prize

for Leadership. "I'm overwhelmed. It's a good end to a hard-out year," said 2Lt Edmonds, of Wanganui, who is posted to 1RNZIR in Linton as an infantry officer. Also of Wanganui was Lieutenant Alice Robinson who received the Australian Chief of General Staff's Prize for Tactics as she had the highest aggregate marks in tactics, military appreciation and arms and services. Lt Robinson is one of the first officer cadets to graduate as a full lieutenant under the new system which recognises the value . of a university degree. The young officer cadets put on their officer 's rank that evening and were officially welcomed into the officers mess in usual ceremonial fashion the next day.
