Rates calculated
• For the ratepayers in the Waimarino who want to calculate their proposed new rates the figures are: general rate, 0.001070 (cents in the dollar of land value); roading rate, 0.003846; ward rate, 0.001243. These figures are multiplied on the new land values. Add the UAGC of $295 and the landfill charge of $132 per house. Don't forget to subtract the Regional Council rate when comparing the proposed rate with this year's rate. My proposed increase is 16.5% and this increase will make my rates rise 43% in the last six years, well over double the rate of inflation per year. Most rural ratepayers will be in a similar situation. I hope Council will suggest a remedy to this unfair situation at its public meeting in Raetihi this Wednesday.
