New Ohakune society now legal

Ohakune now has a formally constituted body, an incorporated Society, Ohakune 2000, which aims to be the vehicle to make advances for the area. The - legal formalities have recently been completed, said a spokesperson, following the initiatives set in place at the public meeting held in.the Ohakune Club earlier this year.

The group' s founding members have now called a meeting, to be held tonight, Tuesday 17 June, 7:00 pm at the council' s Ohakune Service Centre in Miro Street. The meeting is open to all who may have concerns or a wish list for the Ohakune district as it is envisaged that a planning process will be started at

the meeting. Some of the issues Ijkely to be discussed include; the feasibility of the airport project and how best to advance it, rubbish and the presentation of a tidy town, a proposal to be put to council for the re-allocation of council staff to the Waimarino both to ensure a better deli very of services, and to ensure an equity of

spending through the council wage packet in the southern end of the district. The organisers emphasise that this is an Incorporated Society which is there to be used by the community, for the community. "The fact that we are now a legal entity gives us a vehicle to pin our flag on,". said one of its members, JohnMcCarthy. "It will also

give us some teet'n to achieve for this area and equally as importantly will

provide council and other relevant bodies with a definable structure, in other

words, they will be able to identify who they are dealing with."
