Priests ordained into Maori church

More than 100 friends and family attended the ordination of four people at a special service in Raetihi on Sunday. — Bishop Maru Walters of the Wellington Maori Anglican Diocese conducted the service at the former Presbyterian Church, which is being purchased by the Te Wainui Arua Anglican Pastorate. The church is to be known as the Te Wainiu Arua Anglican Maori Community Church. Reverend Tom Hawira said although it is Anglican, they aim to make the church available to all denominations within the community. Hune Rapana, William Crawford and Koebi Hart were ordained as priests, while Margaret Black was ordained as a lay preacher.
