Advisory committee may replace Waiouru board

The Waiouru Community Board resolved to "explore the establishment of a Community. Advisory Committee in place of the Waiouru Community Board at a special meeting of the Board" when they met last week. Thereview of the capital works programme highlighted the fact that all but one of the projects for W aiouru had been postponed due to insufficient funds being available for

them. Acting chief executive Chris Ryan commented that

the number of ratepayers in the Waiouru area was insufficient to meet the costs of the remaining projects. The implications of the 1997-1998 Draft Annual Plan for Waiouru were discussed with particular emphasis given to the impact that dissolving the Community Board would have on the budget. The money saved from scrapping the board could allow the possibility of re-instating some items on the capital works programme. The meeting closed at approximately 9.15 pm and the next meeting will be a special meeting to be held this month.
