Waiouru Kindergarten merger mood now positive

Ameeting attended by both the Weir Terrace and Keningston Kindergarten committees last week resulted in a more positive attitude being taken towards the amalgamation process of the two Waiouru kindergartens. "The staff and committees have been working really hard to see that this goes smoothly for the children," said Wanganui Free Kindergarten executive board member Sue Hercock. The date for the AGM of the combined kindergarten was set for 2 July to enable newly-elected members to be in place at the beginning of the new kindergarten. Among items on the agenda is the selection of a new name for the amalgamated kindergartens. By having a new name, a new image and new committee, it is hoped that parents and children will identify with and respond to their new kindergarten. A ballot will be held, with possible names including Mountain View, Ruapehu, Waiouru,

Central Plateau, Summit and Moawhango Kindergarten. The transfer of children from Weir Terrace Kindergarten to the premises of the Keningston Kindergarten is going very well and discussions regarding the resources to be placed in the new kindergarten are proceeding smoothly, commented Ms Hercock. A closing ceremony will be held at Weir Terrace Kindergarten on 27 June at 12 noon. The patron of the Wanganui Free Kindergarten Association, Peter Cutelli, will attend this event and all past and present parents and committee members are invited. Furniture and other resources will be transferred from Weir Terrace to the Keningston Kindergarten grounds. No decision has yet been made regarding the resources which will remain at the Weir Terrace Kindergarten or even the building itself. The executive board was due to meet last Friday evening and concerns such as these would be raised for discussion.
