TV crew charged with trespass on Army land

Waiouru • Police served trespass notices on a TV 3 ne ws crew who were found on Army land on the weekend. Police say the crew were there in connection with the recent shooting of several Kaimanawa horses. One of the crew was also warned for an assault on an Army personnel member. Police also served trespass notices on two protesters on the weekend. • Waiouru police were kept busy over the past week, attending numerous motor vehicle accidents in their region. • On 2 June a vehicle travelling north drove off the road after colliding with a large rock. Another left the road after skidding on spilt diesel just south of ^ Waiouru. No injuries resulted from these accidents. • Black ice attributed to two further motor vehicle accidents on 4 June. Once again no injuries resulted. • The driver of a vehicle travelling west on SH49 whose vehicle left the road and burst into flames was transported to hospital. • Waiouru police were involved in the removal of stranded motorists from the Desert Road early last week when it was closed due to heavy snow. SH1 was closed for approximately 24 hours and all but a handful of vehicles were able to make their way out through the use of a snow plough. Those remaining were removed the following day. • Police took part in a search for two missing Aucklanders who were rumoured to have attempted

to climb Mt Ruapehu during last week' s heavy snowfalls. The pair were eventually located at the Whakapapa Ski Resort. • On Monday 2 June a diesel spill on State Highway One all the way from Waiouru to Taihape led to five accidents, two of which involved people being injured. The incident involved a major call-out of emergency services from the Waiouru Army Training Group Camp and Taihape including fire, ambulance, police and civilian contractors. Waimarino • Two Ruapehu College students were interviewed in relation to possession and consumption of cannabis last week and were dealt with by Police Youth Aid Section. • Ohakune police arrested a Raetihi woman last week on a charge of cultivating cannabis. She will be appearing in the Ohakune District Court on 19 June. • Monday 26 May, a 20-year-old male from Wanganui was arrested for burglary of a house in Plunket Street, Raetihi. He was also wanted on several outstanding warrants for offences in other areas. • Tuesday 27 May, a 40-year-old male was arrested after smashing two windows in a house in Bracken Street, Ohakune. This followed a dispute that occurred the previous weekend. • Wednesday 28 May in Raetihi a person was

punched by a 20-year-old male and then attacked by that person' s dog and bitten. The offender has been arrested. • A 33-year-old male was arrested for assault on a female and several other related charges. This arose from an incident on 2 1 May . • A building in Seddon Street, Raetihi has had the concrete extemal ventilators smashed around the base of the building, in the last two weeks. • Over 24-25 May the metal gates from around the telephone exchange in Ward Street, Raetihi, were stolen. • On 29 May a parcel for delivery was stolen from a shop in Raetihi during working hours. • Overnight on 29 May a window was broken in the new Ruapehu Tyre Centre in Clyde Street, Ohakune. • At 11pm on Sunday 1 June, two persons were seen trying to get into a utility vehicle in Miro Street. Two persons were spoken to by the police nearby. • At 1 1 . 1 5pm on Sunday 1 June, an offender wearing a balaclava, carrying a piece of wood or something similar tried to force his way into a chalet at 2 Ranfurly Terrace, Raetihi. Visitors were staying at the address and the offender ran off when they approached him. • At 4pm on Sunday 1 June a 17-year-old snowboarder, who had walked up the T uroa skifield fell over the area known as the waterfall. The local S AR squad went to the scene and brought the person out. He was then helicoptered to Wanganui Hospital. This was the fourth Ruapehu rescue in as many weeks.
