There was a close tussle for first place North-South on Wednesday night with Betty Hammond and Rita Kaiwhare beating Ron Martin and Heather Cranston by 66 points to 65. Betty and Rita retained first place with 53.29% after handicapping while Ron and Heather were relegated out of the minor placings. John Eades and Elaine Goldfinch came up to take second with 52.29% while Mark Hays and George Drayton took third with 48.46%. Sarah Hamlin and Gloria King were too good for their East-W est competition finishing on a massive 70.37%. Pauline Le Noel and Gordon Mottram teamed up together and despite some unfamiliarity with each other' s calls, combined well enough to score 57.96% for second place. Rose Martin and Fiona Brown also had a good night finishing in third place with 54.88%.
