New community co-ordinator for Waiouru Drop-In Centre

One of the more recent appointments in Waiouru has been Jackie Hollis for the position of Community Coordinator at the Information and Drop-ln Centre. "It would be nice to have the community get behind the Centre for the kids and make the most of what the area has to offer," said Ms Hollis. While it is early days yet for Ms Hollis, who only started at the centre at the beginning of this month, she is already working on the school holiday programme for the July break. The tentative schedule looks very promising as she is trying to cover four days per week for both weeks. With both a morning and an afternoon session offered for each day she is hoping that there will be something to interest all

age groups. More details will be made available as these plans are confirmed. Activities for the children outside school hours are also on Ms Hollis' agenda to consider in her new role. She is open to suggestions and would also welcome any assistance to set these new plans in motion. Ms Hollis' personal focus is on the 'kids in the community' and her background reflects her interest in this area. She worked as a nanny in Canada for three years, moving around with each new position so that she was able to see a lot of that country. On her return to New Zealand she was employedby the Makino Aquatic Centre in Feilding where she helped out with the holiday programme at the pool in addition to organising swimming lessons and swim meets. During that time she also worked for the Manawatu District Council in the area of human resources. Waiouru provides the perfect foil for Ms Hollis to pursue her personal interests as she enjoys sports, the outdoors and adventure training. She recently completed the Adventure Course for W omen and is currently enrolled in a kayaking course where she will get to experience all that local rivers have to offer.
