College wins on stage
CONTRIBUTED BY STAFF Fifty one dancers and backstage crew from Ruapehu College took their 1997 Smokefree Stage Challenge 'Simon Says' to the New Plymouth Opera House last Friday and won the regional live performance ahead of Waverley, Opunake and Stratford high schools. Pupils, together with producer/choreographer Ms K Gibson, backstage coordinator Mrs A Stuckey, and managers Mr and Mrs K Trask, were thrilled to receive awards for Best Performance, Best Choreography and Most Entertaining Performance. Television personality Leanne Clark compered the show. Danielle Wilson spoke for all competitors when she led a vote of thanks for the exhilarating competition and friendship which the Stage Challenge generated. Belinda and the crew from TV 2's 'What Now?' followed the team from their 5 .45am Ohakune start to the
final prizegiving and impromptu dance to celebrate
the competition. Footage from this marathon should be included in the country-wide finals due to hit television screens soon. National winners will be judged solely on the basis of their performances on video for a television audience. • Mid-week, 80 students travelled to Taihape for an enjoyable winter sports ex-
change co-ordinatedby Mrs D Campbell and her Taihape counterpart. The end results were mainly in Taihape' s favour. The 1st XV lost 95-0. The 2nd XV also went down (22-5) as did Netball B (45-18) and the soccer and golf teams. However, Ruapehu squash pliayers did score a good win (6 2) as did Netball A (42-36).
