Waiouru's junior achievers in motocross

Stevie Montgomery and T ony Stevens met in December and have fostered their passion and competitive interest in motocross bikes since. Both boys achieved very creditable placings when they rode in the New Zealand National Junior Motocross Championships last month with Stevie gaining a 31st place while Tony achieved a 27th place. Twelve-year-old Stevie began riding 50cc and 60cc motocross bikes around Waiouru and Ruapehu at an early age. Moving up to the 80cc class, he has been racing competitively since January this year and has achieved very good results competing at various club level Motocross, Miniature TT and Enduro' s. He is currently competing in the Darbi-Spectro Oils Winter Motocross series held throughout the lower North Island and is in 4th place with three rounds to go. . Tony Stevens had his first competitive race aboard a Suzuki DS 80 at the South Island Championships in August 1994. He competed in a number of major South Island race meetings over the following three years. Since moving to Waiouru in December, Tony has continued his competitive interest in motocross bikes. He was placed 9th at the T aupo Miniature TT Championships and is currently competing at the South Waikato Winter Motocross Championships in Tokoroa with five rounds to go. Between rounds both boys practise regularly together using various areas around Waiouru and the surrounding district. They share a very competitive spirit both on the track and in association with their other interests which include rugby, league, swimming and watching motocross videos. They are both supported by Shell Waiouru and their families.
