Swimming Club has new committee after second session

The Waiouru Swimming Club successfully negotiated its latest hurdle of recruiting and voting in a new committee at its second annual general meeting for 1997. Previous secretary/treasurer/coach Sue Duncan thanks people for their support and hopes that the club has a very successful season. There had been some doubt as to the future of the club as the first annual general meeting failed to provide a committee. However, last week's meeting successfully elected new president Les Wasley, and secretary/treasurers Marion Bentley and Judith MacDonald who have combined talents to cover this position. Several of the key people from the previous committee were leaving the area during the year and were therefore unable to stand for re-election. Some of the coaching positions will also be affected by the next military posting cycle. The club is relatively quiet during the winter season with coaching efforts directed towards the competitive squad of approximately 40 children. These children are currently training for the East Coast Championships which will be held in Gisbourne in July.
