New Turoa staff structure
Turoa heads for the 1997 ski season with a dra matically changed structure, including a direc tor who will be based in Melbourne. Angus Grimwade, formerly general manager, will now work as executive director from Melbourne, where he is currently studying for a master's degree in business administration. Angus will be in regular contact with Turoa. Forget the jokes about "where' s the remote control" and "management by eMail", Angus says while his job will be less hands-on, he will be here often and regularly, and when not, will still be in regular contact with staff. Mountain operations manager is now Mike Bayens. He held a similar position in 1996, and was previously operations and maintenance supervisor. He is responsible for ski slope opening, closing decisions, maintenance and lift operations, ski patrol, snow movements (grooming, night crew, snow making), the doctors and clinic. Chris Thmpp becomes mountain services manager. He has been operations supervisor and involved in maintenance for a number of seasons, and this year will manage ski hire, road operations (car park, road control, chain hire
and bus drivers), workshop and vehicles, special projects (future developments, liaison with DoC etc) and the ski shop. Stuart Robinson is the company's commercial manager and senior manager. He has had two years as finance manager at Turoa. He will oversee ticket operations, which will include ticket selling (on- and off- mountain saies) and ticket checking. Hamish McPherson is customer services manager, and has previously run the ski schooi and race team. He will be responsible for ski schooi, race team, marketing (a marketing coordinator has been appointed), special events and promotions, and handling complaints. Tania Tumata is executive assistant and will provide the support crew for the managers, and will be in most frequent contact with the executive director. Tania will be the first point of contact for most people. Turoa plans to have their brochure ready prior to the Auckland Snow Show, 17-18 May. Maintenance work on all facilities and machinery has been proceeding smoothly, reports Turoa.
