Ruapehu to quit Wanganui rugby
Ruapehu Rugby Club representa tives will meet with other Northern Wanganui club people this week to discuss the future of the sub-union and whether they should shift to the King Country or
Manawatu unions. Staying with the Wanganui Union is not an option as far as Ruapehu is concerned, the Bulletin was told. This follows the decision by the Wanganui Rugby Football Union to stick with the 6-4 club split which leaves the four Northern teams in a small sub-union on their own. The Bulletin was told the status quo meant Ruapehu and the other clubs only had four teams to compete against, meaning they would play each other at least three times each sea-
son. The competition they faced was not varied enough. Ruapehu had voted for a single 10-side Wanganui division, but Waimarino players believe the Wanganui teams are against this because they don't like the travplling up to the northern home games. "It may be that they don' t particularly want us," said a spokesperson. The national body would probably not allow them to split away mid-way through the season, so Ruapehu will most likely play out the season in the sub-union.
