Few applications for Waimarino arts funds
Artists from the south of the Ruapehu District are slow to make application for funding from the Ruapehu Community Arts Council, which distributes money on behalf of the Ruapehu District Creative Communities Scheme, funded by the government. Chairperson of the arts council. Pam Holdgate, expressed concern that there had been so few applications from the south, at the group's April meeting. The Creative Community Assessment Committee allocated $2500 to the arts council for distribution through the year in amounts up to $500. A further $2500 is to be made
available from September 1997. The committee also allocated $10,020 directly to arts applicants. The only applicant receiving money in the southern Ruapehu was the Ohakune Art Awards ($2500) for their annual exhibition. An application from the Ohakune Events Organisation was referred back to the applicant to reapply to the Ruapehu Community Arts Council; and an application from Tina Drayton for funding for a publication was referred to Creative New Zealand.
